August 19 -- One More Room

Across the landing from Ava's room on the third floor is a small storage area that over the years was called Quentin's Room (after the "Dark Shadows" character), the Storage Room, or more recently, the Attic Boutique, where we went browsing for stored hand-me-down clothes until the girls grew into them.

Now, we are transforming it into Ava's Lounge, since her bedroom really only fits a bed and small desk.

The room was gutted Tuesday, HVAC will be installed (there never was any previously) this week, and we expect to gain a few square feet here and there.

A couple of surprises: a look at the back of the 1788-era stone chimney, an area that used to hold an exterior window, and the autograph of the carpenter(s) who framed the Depression-era addition (which itself was updated and absorbed in the 1964 renovation).

The old window area, and door to the landing:

Looking "north" (the doorway out to the landing/Ava's room is off-camera to the left):

Details of the chimney and its transition  to brick:

And the autographs of Those Who Came Before. It seems to say, "Rebuilt by M. Cox...[and another name, undecipherable] ...1932."
