April 28 -- Weathered Vane

We have had this old weather vane in our garage for literally decades: recovered from a hotel property acquired in the late 1980's. Its restoration began today, the only question is on which peak it will be mounted.

This was completed weeks ago, regrets for the delayed posting.

I found some stunning cedar planks in the attic, measuring 1"x14" but over 16 _feet_ long. An attic window had to be removed just to get them out for use below. They act as a header and "container" for the rolling screen and its track.

Kevin is really cooking now: the entire east side of the garage has the post and beam feature installed.

The garage will have a ceiling, so only the exterior parts of the milled posts and logs will be exposed. Note how some of the bark and imperfections of the lumber will be visible:

This chimney only needed pointing up and a few bricks replaced, beyond the new cap installation.

I found this stone elsewhere on the property that I want to include somewhere in the garage wall. It is really heavy.

I was asked to uncover the milled lumber to help it dry in the warm spring sunshine.

We continue to have some moisture seeping in along the library's north wall. So, the earth has been dug away so the DryVit material could be parged. Hope this works.

Half of the area above my garage bays will be used for holiday decorations storage, etc. The "void" you see in the trusses below allow for a 14'x16' attic space.
